Working with an interdisciplinary team of urban designers, architects and engineers, KMDG led the master planning of a new urban area in Malaysia as prime consultant. As project manager, Michael coordinated the transportation, urban and landscape design with the consultant team and managed KMDG staff in the production of landscape diagrams and renderings. The project required extensive geographic research which led to an ambitious yet contextually appropriate landscape vision for the region
Through rigorous topographic analysis, the urban design is structured by landscape to minimize bulk earthwork, manage stormwater at the watershed scale, and ensure that public open space is always accessible within a 5 minute walk. With a high speed rail station anchoring the downtown core, transportation planning figured prominently in KMDG’s scope and alternative transportation systems were integrated at all scales create a transit-oriented development culture from the very beginning.
